Howdy readers!
June 1st, we celebrated International Children's Day here at SFCV! Children's day is great day to celebrate all the little joys that God has blessed us with. When I first moved to China, I had no idea about this special holiday, since it's not regularly observed in the U.S.; however I was quickly made aware and brought up to speed on how awesome and special Children's day is. Going into the day, I was unbelievably excited and I have to admit, I think it may be one of the BEST days I've ever had in China!! We started the day with a performance with singing, dancing, magic, and more that was organized by our Teachers and performed by our adorable kids! In the weeks leading up to Children's day I had seen the kids practicing and preparing and all of their hard work definitely paid off - I was throughly impressed by all of their tremendous talents. Following a special McDonald's lunch and naps our kids and staff participated in a water fight, with pools, water guns, water balloons, pots, buckets, and anything that might hold water long enough to splash someone. I can't tell you how much fun it was to see all these soaking wet and overjoyed faces - I was truly blessed by the simpleness of their joy. Children's Day was just another reminder of how awesome our God is and how blessed I am to be known by Him. Enough talking from me....just take a look :)

Charissa joined the SFCV family back in 2009, when she was just 3 and a half years old. From the start, Charissa's life was challenged, shortly after birth she was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, Spina Bifida, posterior Meningocele and Cerebral Palsy. When she was a baby, surgeons placed a VP shunt to treat the Hydrocephalus and her Meningocele was removed. Since her surgery several years ago, Charissa has progressed wonderfully. Despite her inability to control her body from the waist down, she has become a very independent young girl with an excellent outlook on life. Over the last 7 ye...
