It's the most wonderful time of the year....

Merry Christmas From the SFCV Staff to you!
Jason
Christmas time is finally here! I'm amazed by how fast time really flies, it feels like I just arrived yesterday and today I'm preparing to head home for the Christmas holiday. This time of year has always held a very special place in my heart. Since childhood, I've loved and treasured the warmth of this season and my family all together. This year has been filled with many wonderful changes and I've had the opportunity to see new and beautiful things. Of all the beauty that I have seen in this world, the most precious and special is the glow on a Child's face at Christmas time- it's pure magic!

At our SFCV Christmas party, earlier this month, I had the pleasure of helping pass out presents and snacks to our adorable kids. I carefully watched and soaked in all the joy as they munched on their treats and tore through the wrapping revealing their special gifts. As I watched, I saw the face of each child light up with the shimmering glow that only Christmas brings, it was truly amazing! Not only have this kids helped to re-ignite the childlike anticipation I once had for Christmas, but they have been a constant reminder to me of what this season is all about.

Each one of us could, in our own way, retell the story of Jesus' birth, but how many of us truly take to heart how it felt to see this miracle come to pass. I think of the Shepherds that were keeping watch over their sheep that winter's night. They saw first hand, the "Christmas glow" on the faces of everyone in that stable as Mary held the greatest gift this world has ever seen. It's sad to me that so often we (as a people, as westerners, and as Americans) drift so far from the true meaning of Christmas, we get lost in the gifts, in the decorations, in the hustle and bustle and we forget the rawness of what the Shepherd's saw that night. I say this because for so many years, I too have been caught up in the materialistic-ness of American Christmas, but this year is different. When I saw the looks on these kids faces I was reminded of the Shepherd's and how precious a gift Jesus truly is in my life. I'm so blessed and thankful for this reminder, it truly is the most wonderful time of the year!

Merry Christmas!

She's Determined to find a Family...and So Am I

I'm dedicating today's post to a very special little girl. A girl who loves without boundaries despite her physical limitations. A girl who's joy is printed like a map and worn on on her face. A girl who is smart, innovative, intelligent and eager to learn. A girl who is growing up fast and desperately longs for a forever family of her own. Today is about a girl named, Charissa. Charissa joined the SFCV family back in 2009, when she was just 3 and a half years old. From the start, Charissa's life was challenged, shortly after birth she was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, Spina Bifida, posterior Meningocele and Cerebral Palsy. When she was a baby, surgeons placed a VP shunt to treat the Hydrocephalus and her Meningocele was removed. Since her surgery several years ago, Charissa has progressed wonderfully. Despite her inability to control her body from the waist down, she has become a very independent young girl with an excellent outlook on life.  Over the last 7 ye...

Sid: "HellooooOO!"

Hi! I'm Sid! Good Morning to all of you in the west and Good Night to all of you on my half of the world! I can't wait to tell you all about this awesome kid named, Sid. Kid named, Sid! haha, it rhymes! LOL :) Sid is awesome you're all going to love him, I just know it! Sid came to SFCV, not that long ago from a city in inner Mongolia (North China) called, Baotou. He has called SFCV home for almost 3 years, and boy are we happy to have him here! He's a ray of sunshine and can bring a smile to anyone's face. I chose to write my first advocacy blog about Sid for two reasons: 1. He's awesome and everyone should know about him and all that he can do, plus he needs a forever family...soon! and 2. On June 1st, Sid will turn 12 years old. That means he only has 2 more years to find a forever family. In China once a child turns 14years old they can no longer be adopted. This is heartbreaking. A lot of kids with special needs that age out of the adoption system ...

Ni hao from Shepherd's Field Children's Village!!

Ni Hao from Shepherd's Field Children's Village!     It's hard to believe that I have already been here for 1 whole month! Some mornings I wake up and and feel like I'm still dreaming, I'm so blessed to have this life be my reality. I would like to thank each and every person who has loved me, prayed for me and helped to support me. You have no idea how blessed I am by your faithfulness and God's goodness! Thank you! My arrival at Shepherd's Field on October 1st was ideal, I unknowingly came during October Holiday, which is a week long celebration of Chinese Independence, during this holiday all of our children are out of school and there is no work for local or foreign staff. Arriving during Holiday was quite nice, since it allowed me time to adjust and settle into my new home, get over my jet lag, and really reconnect with other staff members. It was especially nice to reconnect with the therapy team that I had work so closely with over the summe...
