It's the most wonderful time of the year....

Merry Christmas From the SFCV Staff to you! Jason Christmas time is finally here! I'm amazed by how fast time really flies, it feels like I just arrived yesterday and today I'm preparing to head home for the Christmas holiday. This time of year has always held a very special place in my heart. Since childhood, I've loved and treasured the warmth of this season and my family all together. This year has been filled with many wonderful changes and I've had the opportunity to see new and beautiful things. Of all the beauty that I have seen in this world, the most precious and special is the glow on a Child's face at Christmas time- it's pure magic! Kevin Andrew and Aaron At our SFCV Christmas party, earlier this month, I had the pleasure of helping pass out presents and snacks to our adorable kids. I carefully watched and soaked in all the joy as they munched on their treats and tore through the wrapping revealing their special gifts. As I watched,

Team CMYK!

Cmyk! I'd like to introduce you all to a very special little someone. Meet, Charley Moon Yingmi Kasper or Cmyk (sm-ick) as I like to call her. Charley Moon is one of the adorable bundles-of-joy that I have had the privilege of working with. As most 2 1/2 year old's are, Charley Moon is quite the character; she's a dancer, a comedian, a lover, a keeper of secrets, and an adoptee. Over the last few months I've had the honor to sit in a front seat and watch the final pieces of her adoption fall into place and I have to say that witnessing this miracle has changed my life. Charley Moon and Mommy - July 2013 I first met Charley Moon and her (now) mother, Kayla on my very first trip to China in July of 2013. When I met, Cmyk or "Leah" as she was called back then, she was just about 18months old and weighed no more than 15 pounds. When she arrived at Shepherd's Field in the spring 2012, she was struggling to maintain good nutrition and very underdeve

Tribe Life

Everyone knows that when you start a new job, things are always challenging and somewhat confusing in the beginning.  The hope is always that the more accustomed you become to this new job placement the better and more fluid things become. I'm glad to say that this "method" if you will, has always proven to be applicable in my life. However, no matter how awesome the job is there is always that inevitable "newbie" period, when you tend to feel like no matter how prepared you are educationally, physically or mentally, everything is still so foreign... and in my case they are, they're completely foreign!  SFCV Therapy Team! Back L to R: Xiao Wang, Da Li, Xiao Ding, Annie Front L to R: Naomi, Sid, Max, Kayla & Charley Moon I've found that when you start a new job it's like joining a foreign tribe. For a while, you're  the outsider but after you've proven your loyalty, respect and integrity to each member of the tribe they accept

Cornhole

Have you every played Cornhole? Some of you may know it as "bean bag toss" or "Bags"? For those of you who don't know, it's a backyard kind of game where two teams of two take turns throwing been bags at a raised board that has a hole cut into it. Each round, both team has 4 bags to be thrown. Points are scored by landing bags on the board for 1 point, any bag that lands in the hole scores 3 points and is called a "Cornhole". The first team to score 21 points wins. According to Wikipedia it's origins are unknown although there have been several claims of how it originated. The games origin is none of my concern, but the game is. This game is fun and competitive and relies on a mixture of talent and luck. My very first exposure to this game, dates back to just a few years ago and to be rather honest, I wasn't impressed. It didn't prove to be an exciting or fast paced game to which I'm more inclined. But as many of you may know

Ni hao from Shepherd's Field Children's Village!!

Ni Hao from Shepherd's Field Children's Village!     It's hard to believe that I have already been here for 1 whole month! Some mornings I wake up and and feel like I'm still dreaming, I'm so blessed to have this life be my reality. I would like to thank each and every person who has loved me, prayed for me and helped to support me. You have no idea how blessed I am by your faithfulness and God's goodness! Thank you! My arrival at Shepherd's Field on October 1st was ideal, I unknowingly came during October Holiday, which is a week long celebration of Chinese Independence, during this holiday all of our children are out of school and there is no work for local or foreign staff. Arriving during Holiday was quite nice, since it allowed me time to adjust and settle into my new home, get over my jet lag, and really reconnect with other staff members. It was especially nice to reconnect with the therapy team that I had work so closely with over the summe
